The most affordable way to get regular massage in Charlottesville is to match the session length and type to what your body actually needs, then lower the per-visit cost with a membership or a multi-service plan. At Transcending Health, a 60-minute Relaxation Massage is $120, shorter structural work starts at $55, and donation-based community services start at $5.

What does a massage cost at Transcending Health?
Here are our current 60-minute rates. Most services also come in 90 minutes, and those prices are on our pricing page. Prices can change, so always check that page before you book.
| Massage type | 60 minutes | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|
| Relaxation Massage (Swedish) | $120 | Full-body relaxation and stress relief |
| Restorative massage | $130 | Stress, sleep and general tension |
| Therapeutic massage with evaluation | $130 | A first visit for a specific pain problem |
| Deep tissue massage | $150 | Stubborn knots and chronic tightness |
| Sports massage | $180 | Training recovery, golf and other sports |
| Prenatal massage | $180 | Back, hip and pelvic discomfort in pregnancy |
| Fascial counterstrain | $220 | Gentle positional release for pain that hasn't responded to deeper work |
| Structural integration (Rolfing) | $220 | Posture and long-standing movement patterns |
You don't need to start with the most expensive option. Many people do well with relaxation, restorative or deep tissue work and only move to specialized care if a problem keeps coming back.
Can I book a shorter session to save money?
Yes, for some services. Structural integration on our Manuthera 242 table can be booked as a 30-minute session for $110 or a 15-minute session for $55. A short session works well when one area, like the neck or low back, is the main problem.
Longer sessions cost more per visit but less per minute. A 90-minute massage gives your therapist time to work through several areas without rushing, which can mean fewer visits overall if you have pain in more than one place.

How do memberships lower the cost?
If you get massage regularly, a month-to-month membership is the simplest way to save. There's no long contract.
- 1 service a month: 5% off plus one free add-on.
- 2 services a month: 10% off plus two free add-ons.
- 3 services a month: 15% off, two free add-ons and one high-end add-on (ortho laser or cryo).
Every membership includes access to the Restoration Hub, our app for home exercises, check-ins and messaging between visits.
What if I need several services for one problem?
Our 6-week Restoration Plans combine three or more service packages at 10% off. You can split the payment into installments two or four weeks apart, so you aren't paying for the whole plan up front. These plans make sense when massage is one part of a bigger recovery, for example massage plus corrective exercise after an injury.
Are there lower-cost ways to start?
- Free 15-minute consultation: New clients can talk through their goals before paying for anything.
- $75 consultation with a Multi-Physio assessment: A good first step if you're not sure which service you need. Adding the SoftWave, focus cryo and ortho laser "triad" brings the visit to $125 total.
- Donation-based Community Support: Our Community Support services (Light Water, the Sound Lounge and Rife frequency therapy) start at a $5 minimum donation per service. A 30-minute wellness coaching session is $75. Proceeds support the nonprofit Unified Wellness Project.
Can I use HSA funds or financing?
We don't bill insurance, but we accept HSA cards and CareCredit. Whether massage counts as an eligible HSA expense depends on your plan and your reason for treatment. The IRS generally treats an expense as medical when it's mainly to treat or prevent a physical condition (see IRS Publication 502), so check with your plan administrator if you're unsure.

How do I know a cheaper massage is still safe?
Price matters less than training. In Virginia, massage therapists are licensed through the Board of Nursing, and you can read the state's licensing requirements to see what that involves. Ask any provider about their license and experience with your specific issue before you book.
A few other things help your budget go further: book a session length that fits your goal, tell your therapist exactly where it hurts so time isn't spent elsewhere, and follow the home exercises you're given between visits.
