Rolfing® Structural Integration (often searched as rolphing) is a specialized form of fascial and postural bodywork designed to improve alignment, restore movement efficiency, and reduce chronic tension patterns throughout the body.
Align your body and release chronic tension with Structural Integration. This deep, systematic bodywork helps you move better and feel more at ease in your own skin.
Structural Integration, also known as Rolfing (sometimes spelled rolphing), works with your fascia, the connective tissue that holds the body together. Poor posture, injury, and stress leave tension patterns in that tissue. Those patterns change how you move and can cause pain. Structural Integration helps reset them.
Structural Integration is bodywork focused on posture, alignment, and how well you move. Fascia wraps every muscle, joint, and organ in one connected web. When one part gets stuck, the rest of the body adapts around it.
A regular massage works on tight spots. Structural Integration looks at the whole body. How do you stand? How do you walk? Where do you compensate? The aim is to help each part of the body work together, so movement becomes easier and lasts.
At Transcending Health, we treat it as a movement-focused therapy for long-term change, not a quick fix. Sessions are shaped around your posture, mobility limits, injury history, and goals.
Structural Integration was developed in the twentieth century by Dr. Ida Rolf. She studied how connective tissue, posture, and gravity affect the body. Her method, known as Rolfing, became a ten-session series that works through the body in a set order.
Since then, the approach has grown and spread into wellness centers, sports settings, and rehab clinics. Research on fascia has added to our understanding of why it works.
Fascia can thicken and stiffen where the body is stressed or injured. That pulls the body out of balance. Over time, you may stand crooked, breathe shallowly, or move in ways that strain joints.
Your practitioner uses slow, deep, hands-on pressure to release restricted fascia. You may also be asked to move during the work so the change sticks. Sessions follow a plan that moves through the body region by region. We offer sessions on the Manuthera 242 table, which allows precise positioning.
At Transcending Health, Structural Integration pairs with deep tissue massage, corrective exercise, mobility training, and assisted stretching. Bodywork changes the tissue. Movement work teaches the body to keep the change. Sessions run 30 minutes ($110) or 60 minutes ($220).
Research on fascia and Structural Integration looks at posture, balance, range of motion, chronic low back pain, and how the body senses itself. Some studies report improvements in posture and movement. Evidence is still growing, and results vary.
Structural Integration may help if you have chronic tension that keeps coming back, poor posture, old injuries that changed how you move, stiffness from sitting or repetitive work, or a desire to move more freely. Athletes, desk workers, and active adults all use it.
The work is deep and steady. Talk with your doctor first if you have an acute injury, recent surgery, a clotting disorder, severe osteoporosis, or a serious inflammatory condition. Tell your practitioner about anything that affects how you move. Pressure is always adjusted to you.
You may feel taller, lighter, and more balanced after a session. Some soreness or tiredness for a day is normal as the tissue adapts. Many people notice changes in how they stand and walk that build across a series of sessions.
Structural Integration supports alignment, mobility, and efficient movement. It complements deep tissue massage, corrective exercise, mobility training, and breathwork. Change the structure, retrain the movement, and the results last.
